This Overlook in Central Massachusetts Has Amazing Views of The Blackstone River Valley

Central Massachusetts is home to some beautiful views, but this breathtaking spot overlooking the historic Blackstone River Valley is arguably one of the best in the area. It's also a superb spot to check out fall foliage come mid-October.

To get there, take the scenic drive through winding country roads to Northbridge Massachusetts, bordering Uxbridge. For a short and easy hike to the lookout, park in the lot on Quaker Street, take the Lookout Point Trail, and follow the signs to the lookout. It's an easy hike and should take no longer than 15 minutes.

For more of a challenge, take the King Philips Trail to the overlook. Park at the Rice City Pond Trailhead and hike the King Phillips Lookout Trail. It's about 4 miles in roundtrip. Find the trail map here.

This hike can easily be turned into a great day trip. We suggest stopping at River Bend Farm visitor center a few minutes away to learn about the history of the canal, and to see the Blackstone River at ground level. The farm has live music in the summer, and hosts other events throughout the year.

Next, take the long or short hike to the overlook to see the river from above, take some pictures, and end the day at one of Central Massachusetts' fine restaurants. If you have time to spare before dinner - take the 15 minute drive over to Southwicks Zoo!
