Amid fall season vibrancy, from pumpkin carving to apple picking, Halloween is the perfect time to revel in local magic with family and friends. Check out this list of thrill-seeking Halloween activities in Central Massachusetts during the 2022 season. 

October Wine Glass Paint & Sip at Hardwick Vineyard

October 7 at 6 p.m.

Grab your "partner in wine" and head to Hardwick Vineyard and Winery for their October Wine Glass Paint & Sip. The 90-minute workshop will make any wine lover’s coveted Halloween celebration with the works of all painting essentials, like a 20-ounce wine glass, paints, brushes and stencils to create a pumpkin witch masterpiece. With the support of an art instructor, this event offers a memorable experience of fun and laughter amongst friends. Pro tip: Snag a taste of Hardwick Winery’s autumn inspired drinks while you're there, like the Harvest Maple and Greenwich Apple white wines.


Phantoms by Firelight at Old Sturbridge Village

October 7 through October 31 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. 

For the spooky season lover, Phantoms by Firelight is the perfect event to set a haunted tone. At sundown, Old Sturbridge Village’s New England-inspired rural appearance excites evening goers with its mysterious and eerie surroundings. This family-oriented event features festive foods and drinks, crafts and games, along with storytelling by firelight. Impressive performances by fire jugglers and gravity-defying acrobats and fascinating folklore of the Halloween Museum embody the true spirit of the night. The Spooky Selfie Contest encourages attendees to dress in costumes and post a selfie via social media for a chance to win tickets to a special December event. Stop by for cider donuts and hot apple cider on Halloween night for an exciting thrill with the family! 


Halloween Party by Worcester Public Library 

October 14 at 4 p.m. 

Worcester Public Library is a special spot for kids' Halloween fun. The Halloween Party at Roosevelt Branch becomes a hub for families and children ages 4 to 11 to engage in Halloween festivities of all sorts. Think: games, arts & crafts, favors, and treats for the whole crew. Kiddos are welcomed to stop by in costume for the party. 


Halloween Lineup at The Mercantile 

Apple Orchard PopUp

October 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Clearview Farms hosts an apple orchard popup in front of The Mercantile on Oct. 15, vending their baked goods, bushes of apples, peaches, pumpkins and apple cider donuts with photo opps to boot.

Pumpkin Carving

October 19 from 7 to 9 p.m.

For the 21+ crowd, The Mercantile features a pumpkin carving bonanza on Oct. 19. With your $25 ticket, you'll get all the carving materials you need—pumpkin included—plus a pumpkin beverage of your choice. Think: beer, cider or a specialty pumpkin martini. 

Halloween Soirée 

October 29 from 8 p.m. until close

An evening sponsored by Ghost Tequila is as on-brand as they get. Join the staff in donning your most creative costume at The Mercantile's Halloween party for a chance to win a $250 gift card to the restaurant. 


Douglas Orchard & Farm Halloween Festival 

October 22

Join the Douglas Orchard crew at the farm for Halloween Festival, a seasonal soiree where everyone (including pups!) will be in costume. Main events include chatting with a "real witch," a dog parade, a Dance Sensations performance and a kids scavenger hunt. There will be oxen, miniature donkeys, vendors an food by the Barre Patch. Entry fee is $5/person for those 12 years and older.


Spooktacular at First Congregational Church

October 22 at 6 p.m.

Are you on the hunt for a spooktacular group outing? Bring your group of friends in their spookiest costumes to First Congregational Church for a memorable night of live, on-theme tunes. Spooktacular is an annual event featuring the of music of the magnificent 1958 Cassavant pipe organ, a great opportunity for community fun.

Off the Rails First Annual Halloween Party 

October 29 at 7 p.m. 

Off the Rails Worcester offers a Nashville inspired ambiance for live music lovers to indulge in authentic southern cuisine at a country style bar. This year, Off the Rails hosts their first annual Halloween party that’ll be a welcome addition to any Halloween tradition. The event’s costume contest offers an opportunity to put your creativity to the test for a chance to win first, second or third place.  

Science Tricks & Animal Treats at EcoTarium
October 29 & October 30 

Join the educators and zookeepers at the EcoTarium for Science Tricks & Animal Treats, featuring sneaky science programs about animal camouflage, invisible forces and secret powers.

October 29 & October 30 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Bring the kids down to Worcester Public Market throughout Halloween weekend, with two full days of tricks and treats for the little ones. 


Unicorn Experience at The Farm at SummitWynds

October 29 & October 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

This non-spooky Halloween happening features magic just the same. Mystical creatures of all colors and sizes will grace The Farm at SummitWynds for a total Unicorn Experience, featuring trick or treating, a bouncy castle, self-guided tours, wagon rides, a photo booth, the farm's classic lavender lemonade and more. Kid-friendly costumes are encouraged. 


Zoo Boo Weekend at Southwick's Zoo

October 29 through October 31

Southwick’s Zoo, in the heart of Blackstone River Valley, offers two days of October adventures for all ages. This immersive zoological experience brings guaranteed family fun during Zoo Boo Weekend. Children ages 3 to 11 are welcome to come in costume for the festivities.
