100th anniversary of the American Legion

Rolling Thunder, a group of motorcyclists, will kick off the first leg of the parade at 9:30 a.m., followed by the military vehicles, floats, dignitaries and bands. The parade starts at David Prouty High School and ends at the Highway Department on Meadow Road. The event is one of the biggest planned in the state to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Congress chartering the American Legion. 

A Family Fun Day at the Spencer Fairgrounds will follow the parade. The fairgrounds will open at 10 a.m. with static displays, a carnival and food vendors including the David Prouty High School Senior Booth with burgers and hot dogs. All six Lombardi trophies won by the New England Patriots will be on display. The Clowning for Kidz Foundation will be on hand. A beer garden featuring Spencer Brewery, Timberyard Brewery and Berkshire Brewing Co. will be open from noon to 8 p.m. A bonfire will be lit at dusk.
