Linda Hixton brings to light forgotten stories of Worcester women discovered while working on a project on the history of Hope Cemetery.  While most books written during the "Gilded Age"  showcase only successful men, Ms. Hixton uncovers the largely untold contributions of several now forgotten women.  Even before women received the right to vote, they started companies, invested in buildings, and worked to make the city better for the nameless working women we have truly forgotten.  Most of them married, using their business acumen and pursuing  creative endeavors along with household duties and motherhood.  Women like court reporter Edna Ione Smith Tyler, artist Lucy Richardson, accountant Mary Gibbs Spring , writer Alice Morse Earle, and singer Emma Frances Dearborn were remembered in their time, and should be celebrated in ours.
