Women’s History Month Celebration of Frances Perkins (Virtual)

Date: March 30, 2023 at 6:00 - 7:00 PM

Join us for a virtual presentation by speakers from the Frances Perkins Center on the life and legacy of Frances Perkins.

The Worcester Public Library also invites the public to visit the Frances Perkins Branch during the month of March 2023 to see the traveling exhibit about the Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins. The exhibit is available for viewing during the library’s regular hours

Frances Perkins (1880-1965), the first woman to serve in a U.S. presidential cabinet, was Secretary of Labor (1933-1945) for the entire tenure of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Perkins was the driving force behind many of the groundbreaking New Deal programs that are still the foundation of the American social safety net — Social Security, unemployment insurance, the 40-hour work week, and the minimum wage.

The display of the traveling exhibit is made possible due to the support of the Maine Community Foundation, Maine Humanities Council, Historic New England, Katharine J. Watson, and Newman’s Own Foundation.
