spotlight on sports

Central Massachusetts is home to thousands of sports fanatics, and our stadiums, arenas and ice rinks have become buzzing destinations for athletic advocates from all over.

Buzzing With Baseball

Polar Park serves as home base for the Worcester Red Sox, also known as the WooSox, a Triple-A affiliate of Boston’s Red Sox. Alongside the bustle of the stadium, Worcester’s Canal District and nearby Restaurant Row on Shrewsbury Street are a sight to be seen and experienced

Over at Fitton Field, the Worcester Bravehearts offer baseball fans a chance to witness high-level collegiate athletes on the cusp of being drafted by professional teams. As part of the Futures League, the Bravehearts compete against seven other teams from around New England.

A Focus on Football

Take a trip downtown and you’ll find the Massachusetts Pirates, a professional indoor football team, and a part of the National Arena League, leaving it out on the field at Worcester’s DCU Center

Home to Hockey

The Worcester Railers HC, players in the ECHL Premier “AA” hockey league, show up in full force to the DCU Center each season, with a focus on bolstering the Central Massachusetts community. The Railers host several promotional nights throughout their season, like Pink in the Rink, Military Appreciation Night and Fan Appreciation Night, all to honor special causes and local notables. Along with this philanthropic presence, the Railers compete on the ice to bring home a Kelly Cup Championship, and fans are considered true partners in the strive for every win. Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center acts as the home practice facility for the Railers, as well as several collegiate, top tier high school and youth programs.

Competition at the Core

Dancers, gymnasts and cheerleading pros grace the DCU Center through the wintertime months, brimming with energy and talent at this indoor arena.

An H2O Adventure

Lake Quinsigamond acts as a popular destination for both regional regattas and casual rowers. Interested visitors have options for boat rentals on both the Worcester and Shrewsbury shores.

A Mountainside Sports Mecca

Mountains like Ski Ward in Shrewsbury and Wachusett Mountain in Princeton are prime for snowy day experiences. You’ll find casual trails and competitive events at both destinations.

An Equestrian Experience

Discover equestrian experiences and admire the local landscape from Cornerstone Ranch, the highest point in Central Massachusetts. This Princeton staple offers group and private lessons, yoga classes, riding in the ring, leisurely horse-drawn wagons, seasonal workshops, party plans and more. Whether you're a beginner to the scene or an advanced rider, you can choose your own horseback adventure from dozens of opportunities at the Ranch.
