The arts are an important part of the region’s cultural fabric. The Central Massachusetts region is known for its excellence in theatre, art and music. The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts attracts audiences from near and far to enjoy world-class, off-Broadway theatre performances. The renowned Worcester Art Museum is the pillar of the region’s arts community, housing thousands of unique collections from around the world. Visitors can experience the rich history of the region and its industrial past at the Worcester Historical Museum or explore the region’s niche galleries such as The Cantor Gallery at The College of the Holy Cross or ArtsWorcester. For a hands-on interactive experience, visitors can check out Clayground Paint Your Own Pottery or glass-blowing classes at the Worcester Center for Crafts.

The mission of the Worcester Arts Council is to promote excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretative sciences to improve the quality of life for Worcester residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our City. The Worcester Arts Council is a municipal body consisting of nine members appointed by the City Manager.
