Expect to be warmly greeted by family-owned businesses, time-honored traditions, historic architecture and a complete escape from the bustle of city life. Taste the local flavors of Brookfield, West Brookfield, & Hardwick in this getaway guide.

Brookfield Orchard

Visit Brookfield Orchards for the family friendly environment and charming country store. You’re invited to take a wagon ride or a peaceful stroll through the orchards to pick your own apples, or simply grab them off the shelf in the store. Fresh pastries are made weekly including pies and dumplings and if you visit on the weekend enjoy fresh cider donuts. Brookfield Orchards has been family owned and operated since 1918 and continues to bring visitors a quintessential New England experience.

Still River Winery

Nestled in the beautiful Quaboag Valley, Still River Winery calls the historic Grange Hall home. This family-owned operation is committed to the intensive and time-consuming work of nurturing small batch ice apple wine. Their rustic setting invites guests to relax and sample apple ice wine with a view of the workrooms, to observe the production process. Tastings are by appointment only.

Ragged Hill Cider Company

Ragged Hill Cider Company is an award-winning orchard and craft cidery specializing in small batch ciders made using traditional methods with no added sugar.  All the apples used are proudly grown, picked, pressed, fermented and bottled at their 100% solar powered orchard and cidery in West Brookfield, Massachusetts.

Hardwick Winery

Hardwick Vineyard and Winery is located on a quiet country road that winds around the Quabbin Reservoir. The restored 1795 structure is just one labor of love on the farm, as the Samek family also restored the fields to plant their vineyard. You can tour the vineyard and house, listen to live music and experience Hardwick’s farm-to-glass magic in a picturesque landscape. During your visit try the Massetts Cranberry, a blend of 90% Cayuga White and 10% locally grown Massachusetts cranberries that is nicely balanced as both sweet and tart.

Hardwick Farmers Co-Op

Founded in 1914 by local farms, Hardwick Farmers Co-Op serves the community’s farming, livestock and gardening supply needs. On the weekends you’ll find farm-fresh ingredients such as Italian bicolor eggplant, live music and local pop-ups, like the Batch Ice Cream Truck.

Rose 32 Bread

A family-owned bakery, Rose32’s owners Glenn and Cindy Mitchell started baking back in the 1970’s. Prior to opening Rose32 the Mitchells built a national baking business in the San Francisco Bay area and Glenn gained international recognition at Coup du Monde de la Boulangerie in Paris, France. Rose32 Bread is a change of pace for the couple - a place to slow down and knead together decades of world-class know-how with a quaint, personal approach that results in small-batch gourmet breads, European-style pastries & light cafe fare.

Lost Towns Brewing

The farmer-brewers at Lost Towns Brewing invite you to taste the essence of Still Life Farm’s local produce in the beers they brew. Local farm ingredients incorporated into their beers include summer fruits like apricots and cherries, fall produce like apples and pumpkins, and aromatic fresh herbs like lemongrass and basil. Their farm gives the brewers a unique opportunity to try outside-the-box beers with an emphasis on locally grown ingredients.

Salem Cross Inn

Salem Cross Inn is a restored 18th century farmhouse nestled on 600 acres of New England countryside. Rich with history, the house, turned restaurant and tavern, offers wonderful seasonal menus with traditional American fare. Featured on Food Network's "The Best Of," WCVB TV5 Boston's "Chronicle" and chosen as the "Hidden Jewel" by Boston's Phantom Gourmet, Salem Cross Inn is renowned for their special events like Fireplace Feasts and gorgeous, rustic event rooms.
