About Mass Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary

Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary is a former farmstead that offers spectacular scenery and supports abundant wildlife on over 1000 acres of protected land. Historic buildings and barns are still in use for educational programming, and resident sheep graze pastures. Twelve miles of trails offer visitors many options for hikes of varied lengths through woodlands, wetlands, and meadows, as well as connections to the Mid-State trail and Wachusett Mountain State Reservation, and a nature play area for children. A variety of programs, including camp, are offered for the public, schools, and scout groups throughout the year.  Canoe and snowshoe rentals are available seasonally as well as indoor and outdoor facility rentals. The nature center, restrooms, program room, outdoor pavilion and part of the trail system is accessible. Wachusett Meadow is a remarkable, peaceful setting for adults and families year round.
